Extreme Home Makeover

When we first moved to our home six years ago we had a list of to-do's and remodel projects that we wanted to accomplish to make our home really "our home." We saw potential in our out-of-date pink and turquoise house. Over the years we have remodeled three bathrooms, mudroom/laundry room, upstairs kitchen, re-roofed the house, put in a new heat pump/ac unit and new furnace, new dishwasher, gas stove top, changed every light fixture indoor and outdoors, new light switch covers, took out the brass door handles and hinges and replaced with oil rubbed bronze, painted the inside of the house, AND...

finally we got to paint the outside of the house and change the front porch/door entry!!!

We have wanted to paint the outside of the house since the day we moved in but other things trumped that desire until this spring. Our painter said that we painted at just the right time as the siding was still in pretty good shape and the prep work was minimal. Birch did several little projects to replacing a few siding pieces that had water damage and the painters went to town caulking the house in preparation too.

We LOVE the final outcome!!!!!

Before:

After:
front porch new front door -- this wasn't on the original list but we are so happy that we did put in the new door. It makes such a difference at giving a whole new feel to the front porch.
new tile work - this wasn't on the list either but ended up being a necessity after our good friend and Birch were taking out the old door realized that the tile work would need to be redone due to several different reasonswhole house back deck back of house back deck and lower patio
side yard

And finally I am proud to announce that we are now owners of a scrappy little piece of land (actually and additional 1.88 acres) behind our house that borders our existing backyard fence. Why is this so exciting?? Because no longer can the canal dude intimidate me or my children -- true they still have a right-of- way but now for a whopping $300 we have liberties too! Best $300 spent yet!!

We LOVE our "new home" (as the kids keep referring to it) and feel so blessed to live here!

A belated congratulation is in order! Your “new house” looks livelier than before, now that you’ve chosen vibrant colors for its exterior. I especially dig that shade of blue for your roof and its effect with your siding’s color. You really went all out with that makeover! =)
