Memorial Weekend

What a refreshing weekend we just had!  I always look forward to Memorial Weekend -- not only to have the time together as a family but also because of the true meaning of Memorial Day...remembering loved ones that have passed away, especially those that have fought to keep our country free.

We have a tradition of going to a cemetery each year. This year we made it in time for the Memorial Day celebration put on by a group of retired Marines.  It was a WONDERFUL ceremony!!
The half an hour was filled with patriotic song, prayer, and poems that reminded me that freedom is NOT FREE.   It was such an uplifting service!
The last couple of years we have gone to West Hills Cemetery which has become more special as our friend's little two year old daughter was buried there last year.  She has a beautiful headstone and we all love looking at it and remembering her.
I am also reminded each year of our little girl that we buried in Missoula, MT.  We have only been back once since we have moved from Montana but it still holds a special place in my heart.

Great discipline technique -- holding hands with your sibling while walking in the public.  They were real good the rest of the day.
Birch and the kids built a "smallish" retaining wall.  Birch hauled over 3060 pounds (each block is 60 pounds) to create that wall.  Really you could times that number by three because he had to first load them in the truck, then unload them, and then load them in the wheel barrow to haul down the hill.  The kids were a good help hauling gravel and sweeping.  Next we get to work on the beautification part of the project.
We finished off the night with a delicious dinner with Emily, Ryan, Sage and Mila.  It was our last meal together while we both live in the same town.  So sad...Emi and Ryan packed their moving truck and drove away this past week.  It has been sad for all of us.  Chloe has called Sage several times in the past day and half since they left.  The kids keep asking why Mila has to move too (she is just such a sweet girl and has us all wrapped around her finger tips).

I truly am so thankful for all those that have fought for my family's freedom!!

Bobcat Attacks the Dittos...again

Nate has been loving his first few weeks of cub scouts.  This was his first pack meeting and boy did he rake it in.  Not only did Nate get his Bobcat award but he also received the Religious Knot and the Physical Fitness Belt Loop.
The Bobcat
I wasn't feeling so awesome so Dad got to receive the "mother's pin."  It was rightfully Birch's this time as Nate and Birch have been working together to pass off several requirements.

Way to go Nate!!

Mini-Olympics Hits Our Hometown

Coop and Chloe have been taking gymnastics classes this school year.  Since Coop is in half-day kindergarten he does not get P.E. so I thought this would be a great work out for him.  Turns out both Chloe and Coop LOVE it!!  Both have advanced classes over the year due to passing off requirements.  I'm not sure that we will continue with the classes after this summer since they cost an arm and leg.

Coop joined the Rockets group several months ago.  It is a super physical class and great for using some of his energy.
Chloe loves it all -- the outfit, seeing her friends at class, Teacher Julie...oh yeah, and the gymnastics stuff.

So fun to have her Bestie in class!

The floor dance routine was so cute.  The girls did their dance to "Walk Like An Egyptian."

Coop LOVED his dance number to a Kung Fu Panda song!

Chloe, Emi, and cousin Sage (Sage used to be in class with these girls but she advanced quickly and now goes another day.  She was a great cheerleader!)

Super proud of her blue ribbon!

Coop was so excited to share his accomplishment with his brothers.

Alysee Struts Her Stuff

Alysee also performed in the school talent show.  She and her girlfriends practiced for months during recess.

The girls were banned from practicing their pyramid at school so they moved practices to our house.  They were so giggly it was hard for them to ever finish their number.

Sure turned out cute!

Alysee also "struts her stuff" as a school patrol member.  She is not a fan of the morning duty as she prefers to sleep in to the last minute.
She takes this job seriously! (Note:  she is wearing capris under that uniform)

Coop Turns 6!!!!

Hard not to love this kid!  He is full of laughter, mad dancing skills, and the life of the party!
Alex asked Coop what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday -- Coop described a cake with all different layers of circles stacked on top of each other.  Coop loved Alex's masterpiece.

Coop weighed in at 38 lbs and 44 inches tall (that was almost 3 inches of growth since December).
Brave Coop decided that he wanted to participate in the school's talent show.  He was full of butterflies but did awesome!  They saved the best for last -- Coop wrapped up the show.

Mother's Day Weekend

Mother's Day weekend was one that we were all looking forward to!

While the boys all headed to the Father and Son's Campout the girls (Emily, Mila, Sage, Chloe, Alysee, and myself) all indulged ourselves in dinner at Olive Garden.  Chloe and Alysee had been planning this night for weeks.  Alysee had never been to Olive Garden so that is why she picked to go there.  We all consumed so much food but still came home with enough for lunch the following day.
We watched a really intense princess/horse movie while munching on jelly beans.  I hadn't noticed Mila's lips until I was editing this picture.  She obviously LOVES candy!
The boys had a great time roasting hot dogs, having a fireside, and playing ultimate frisbee by flashlight.
It was a chilly night but everyone had a great time!  Uncle Ryan joined the boys for the overnighter.

Mother's Day I was surrounded by those I love most! I enjoyed breakfast in bed, lots of homemade cards and gift certificates, a delicious lunch, and a gift card for itunes.  Those kids know I love new music!

 Love these kiddos!!!

Bonding through Rock Climbing

The first weekend of May Alex's boy scout troop went to the Feathers to work on their climbing merit badge.  Alex already has in merit badge but still soaked in every minute.  Tyler and Birch joined the troop for the overnighter.
So proud of both of these boys!  This particular climb was real challenging for both of them.
Alex cleaned up a lot of the climbs.

And the Ditto brother's salute carries on.

Tyler is such an awesome climber.

This was Tyler's first scout campout so it was extra nice to have Birch along.
Alex is quite at home on the rocks!
Lucky boys to have such an awesome Dad!

Baseball boy...turns "man"

Sadly, Alex's Junior High baseball season has come to a close.
And what a season they had!!!  Straight wins and one tie!
Alex has some great hits and several RBI's.  He really enjoyed the season and always gets a little grumpy when it is time to "hang up" his glove.

Sometime during the season people started saying things to Alex about needing to shave his upper lip.  My baby is growing up.  I bet not a Sunday goes by that someone at church doesn't comment about how Alex is so tall!
I get a kick out of this picture -- look at the proud and thoughtful look Birch has.
